How is CAILIN Stone-Coated Metal Roofing Made?

The origin of stone-coated metal tiles can be traced back to WWII when the British developed the earliest formulation of coating emulsion, which was applied to metal roofs to avoid German bombers. Today, manufacturers have innovated and upgraded the original formula, offering homeowners some of the most durable, long-lasting, aesthetically pleasing, and eco-friendly roofing materials on the market.

Let's follow CAILIN and take a closer look at how we manufacture our Stone-Coated Metal Roof Tiles in our state-of-the-art factories.

History of Stone-Coated Metal Tiles

After WWII, a New Zealand industrialist began experimenting with the emulsion formula developed by the British. He applied it to aluminum-zinc coated steel sheet, adding a layer of crushed stone granules, thus creating a more appealing metal roofing product, which marked the beginning of stone-coated metal tiles.

What is CAILIN Stone-Coated Metal Roofing Made Of

Based on the original formula, CAILIN has Improved the steel sheet base and acrylic resin coating, enhancing the performance of the metal tiles.

Steel:

CAILIN Stone-Coated Metal Roofing is made from high-quality steel sheets, with customizable thicknesses ranging from 0.45 to 0.6mm. The steel's performance is excellent, with a minimum yield strength of 255 MPa and a tensile strength between 345-448 MPa, ensuring strong structural support. In the annealing process, trace elements are added to optimize the grain structure and improve ductility. It also has an elongation rate of ≥ 22%, making it suitable for complex shaping processes. The high heat reflectivity of up to 65% effectively reduces heat absorption, making it perfect for high-end residential roofing in any environment.

Aluminum-Zinc Alloy Coating:

The steel sheets are coated with an AZ150 aluminum-zinc alloy. The coating composition is crucial, consisting of 55% aluminum, 43.5% zinc, and 1.5% silicon. Aluminum significantly improves the corrosion resistance and heat resistance of the steel, creating a dense protective layer that resists moisture, oxygen, and high-temperature oxidation, thereby prolonging the steel's lifespan. Zinc, through its electrochemical properties, provides sacrificial protection, oxidizing before the steel, thus protecting the base metal from corrosion. Silicon, though a minor component, plays a key role in regulating the metallurgical reaction between the coating and the steel substrate, enhancing adhesion and increasing the coating's stability and resistance to peeling. This synergy makes the aluminum-zinc-coated steel sheets highly durable and protective, suitable for harsh environments. CAILIN uses a chromium-free passivation agent in the entire process to reduce environmental pollution.

Anti-Fingerprint Coating (AFP):

During production, transportation, installation, or use, the surface of the aluminum-zinc steel sheets is susceptible to fingerprints, oil stains, or dirt, which affect performance. The anti-fingerprint coating forms a super-thin protective film that reduces the adhesion of oil or moisture, preventing fingerprints from remaining and providing additional corrosion and UV protection for the metal beneath.

Acrylic Resin Coating:

The acrylic resin coating consists of two layers: one applied to the aluminum-zinc coated steel sheet to bond the mineral granules, and the other sprayed onto the surface of the mineral granules for secondary curing, providing additional corrosion resistance and UV protection. This advanced acrylic resin also contains fire-retardant and cold-resistant elements, ensuring that CAILIN Stone-Coated Metal Roofing performs excellently in both high and low-temperature environments.

Stone-Coated Granules:

CAILIN's stone-coated granules are made from basalt particles, and the granules are sintered and glazed at high temperatures of 850-950°C using advanced technology. Afterward, they are sieved to remove undersized or loose particles, leaving the most suitable granules for roofing tiles, ensuring that the granules will not fall off and will never fade.

How is CAILIN Stone-Coated Metal Roofing Manufactured

CAILIN has three Metal Roof Tile manufacturing factories, all equipped with the most advanced equipment, covering a total of 130,000 square feet. Our factories have been certified with ISO 9001 (Quality Management System), ISO 14001 (Environmental Management System), and ISO 45001 (Occupational Health and Safety Management System).

With the collective effort of over 200 employees, CAILIN is an international leader in environmental protection and productivity. Our manufacturing process is divided into six steps:
1. Manufacture and stamping of aluminum-zinc coated steel sheets (13 types of molds).
2. First layer of acrylic resin spraying.
3. Coating and bonding of never-fading mineral granules.
4. High-temperature drying and curing.
5. Second layer of acrylic resin spraying.
6. Final curing of finished Stone-Coated Metal Roof Tiles.

CAILIN's factory workshops all follow the 5S management method (reducing defect rates by 27%), including Seiri, Seiton, Seiso, Seiketsu , and Shitsuke. This ensures a modern, clean, and organized production environment, which is the cornerstone of CAILIN's high-quality products.
